Form 15G | How to Fill Form 15G for PF Withdrawal : PF Form 15g :Often you are not liable for tax but still TDS is deducted. Therefore, if you feel that your total year-end earnings will not come under tax, then tell it in advance so that TDS is not deducted. One has to use Form 15G to tell it. Even if you are withdrawing money from PF, you may need to fill this form. Actually, if you withdraw money from PF without completing a job for five years, then TDS can be deducted from your money. So it is better that you fill Form 15G along with Withdrawal Application. Today in this post, we will show How to Fill Form 15G for PF Withdrawal.

How to download Form 15G and Form 15H PDF?

To download Form 15G or Form 15H, here’s what you need to do:

  • Visit the Income Tax Department website
  • Under ‘Frequently used Forms’, look for Form 15G or Form 15H, depending on your requirement.
  • Click on the PDF icon next to it and download the form. Once you’ve downloaded the form, print 3 copies of it. Sign and submit the printed documents to your financier.

How to Fill Form 15G for PF Withdrawal

Now that you have an idea about the TDS rules that are applicable to EPF and also what is Form 15G or 15H, let’s move on and understand the process of how to fill Form 15G for online EPF withdrawal.

  • Login to EPFO UAN Unified Portal for members.
  • Click on the ONLINE SERVICES option – Claim (Form 31, 19, 10C).
  • Verify the last 4 digits of your bank account
  • Below the option, ‘I want to apply for’, click on Upload form 15G as depicted in the image

If you are applying online to get PF, then Form 15G can also be uploaded online. But keep in mind, first you have to fill the paper form with 15 G, then make a PDF and save it on computer or mobile. The same PDF copy is uploaded during the process of filling the PF form. 

And yes, just like a PDF of pf Form 15G, a scan copy of a bank account check or passbook will also be required. The steps to be followed for this process are as follows-

  • >Go to the UAN Unified Portal of EPFO. The link is – https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/
  • >Here the login box of the Universal Account Number (UAN) MEMBER e-SEWA appears. Username (UAN). And login with the help of password. You can also reset your password if you have forgotten it.

If you click ONLINE SERVICES in the above tab, a dropdown list will open. Click on Claim (Form 31, 19, 10C) on the first number.

In the next page that opens, your personal details (name, father’s name, date of birth, mobile number etc.) and KYC details (Aadhaar number, PAN number, bank account number, etc.) are displayed.

Where BANK ACCOUNT No. It is written that the bank does not have the last four digits in front of it, which you have to fill. After this, click on the verify button. This is the same bank account number that is linked to your EPF account.

As soon as you click on the button of Verify , a warning letter WARNING (s) opens in front of you asking you to certify that—

  1. I have checked the Bank Account details shown in the PF Claim Form . I am aware that the amount of your EPF will be deposited in this bank account.
  2. I am aware of the eligibility required for all claims related to my UAN related PF Accounts. EPFO will have the right to settle PF claim as per the prescribed terms and conditions and according to my service. According to them, the claim will have the right to be accepted or rejected.
  3. >After the account is verified , a button for proceed for online claim starts appearing in the form . Click on it

Step 4

On the next page, you have to choose the type of PF related claim below. There are three options

  • Only PF Withdrawal (form 19): To remove PF
  • Only Pension Withdrawal (form 10 C): Only to withdraw the pension 
  • PF Advance (Form-31): To withdraw PF Advance

You have to select only PF Withdrawal (form 19) option in it.

As soon as you select this option, some new options open on the screen below it.

Step 5

The first option is of Upload Form-15G . Right in front of it  is a button to choose file . By clicking on it, you can upload a PDF copy of the pre-filled Form 15G.

Keep in mind:  PDF file size should not be more than 1MB, otherwise it will not be uploaded. In order to know what is filled in Form 15, we are also giving a screen shot of its PDF copy below.

Note: Let me tell you one thing again that if you have been working for 5 years and your PF has been deposited for 5 consecutive years, then neither your TDS will be deducted nor you need to submit Form 15G. In this case, you can proceed further by leaving this step.

  • After uploading the pf Form 15G below, you have to enter the employee address (your address, PIN code etc.) in the next column .
  • Then you have to upload a scan copy of your bank account check or passbook below. The photo of the check or passbook should be in JPG or JPEG file only.
  • >Note: Scan copy of check or passbook should be at least 100 KB and maximum of 500 KB. The name, bank account number, IFSC code, etc. should be visible in it. Otherwise your claim may be rejected.

Below you have to tick the small box made before a small declaration. Here you have to give consent to use your Aadhaar related data. And to declare the correctness of UAN, Bank Account Number, IFSC Code, Aadhaar Number, PAN Number etc.

Then click on the  Get Aadhaar OTP  button at the bottom . After this, an OTP number will come on the mobile registered in your Aadhaar. Validate your Apply by filling that number in the OTP box.

  • Form 15G for pf is a self-declaration form for seeking non-deduction of TDS on specific income as annual income of the tax assessee is less than the exemption limit.
  • The rules for this specific self-declaration form are mentioned under the provisions of Section 197A of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
  • The structure of Form 15G for pf has undergone considerable change in 2015 to ease the compliance burden and cost for both tax deductor and tax deductee.
  • The current format of Form 15G for pf and Form 15H (the senior citizens variant for Form 15G for pf) introduced by CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes)

  • Name as mentioned on your PAN Card.
  • Permanent Account Number. Valid PAN card is mandatory to file Form 15G for pf. If you fail to furnish valid PAN details, your declaration will be treated as invalid.
  • Declaration in Form 15G for pf can be furnished by an individual but not by a firm or company.
  • Previous year has to be selected as the financial year for which you are claiming non-deduction of TDS.
  • Mention your residential status as resident individual because NRI are not allowed to submit Form 15G for pf.
  • Mention your communication address correctly along with PIN code.
  • Provide valid email ID and contact number for further communications.
  • Tick mark ‘’Yes’’, if you were assessed to tax under the provisions of Income Tax Act, 1961 for any of the previous assessment years.
  • Mention the latest assessment year for which your returns were assessed.
  • Estimated income for which you are making declaration needs to be mentioned
  • Total estimated income for the financial year (which includes all the income)
  • If you have already filed Form 15G for pf anytime during the financial year, then the details of previous declaration along with aggregate amount of income needs to be mentioned in the present declaration.
  • Last part of the section 1 talks about the investment details for which you are filing declaration. You need to furnish the investment account number (term deposit/ life insurance policy number/ employee code etc)

Second part of Form 15G for pf is to be filled out by the deduct-or i.e. the person who is going to deposit the tax deducted at source to government on behalf of the tax assesses.

How to fill Form 15G for pf Online

Most banks in India now provide the option of filling out and submitting Form 15G for pf online. Having an operational internet banking login is mandatory for availing this facility. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Log into your bank’s internet banking with applicable User ID and Password
  • Click on the online fixed deposits tab which will take you to the page where your fixed deposit details are displayed.
  • On the same page, you should have the option to generate Form 15G for pf and Form 15H. Click on the available link to open the fillable form option.
  • Once the form is opened online in fillable format, start filling out the details and information very carefully.
  • Mention the branch details of the bank with which your FD/RD is held. If you do not have these details handy, use the bank’s branch locator tools to easily find the required details.
  • Fill out all other details pertaining to your investment without any error and submit it.

When the TDS is Applicable?

In case, the employee wishes to withdraw his/her EPF amount which is more than or equal to Rs.50, 000 with less than 5 years of service.

1) TDS is deducted at 10% if an employee submits the PAN Card (But EPF form 15G form for EPF/15H is not submitted).

2) TDS will be deducted at the rate of 34.608% if an employee fails to submit the PAN Card. (Also EPF Form 15G/15H is not submitted).

When the TDS is not Applicable?

1) When one transfers their EPF account to another account.

2) Termination of service happened due to ill-health of the employee, discontinuation of business by an employer, completion of a project or other cause beyond the control of an employee.

3) If an employee withdraws the EPF amount after a total of 5 years of service (Including the service with a former employer).

4) If the EPF amount is less than Rs.50, 000, but the employee has rendered service of below 5 years.

5) In case the employee withdraws more than or equal to Rs.50, 000, with the employment of fewer than 5 years, but submits EPF Form 15G/15H along with PAN Card.

What is Form 15G?

Form 15G can be used to prevent TDS deduction on income, if the following conditions are met:

  • You are an individual (and Resident Indian) or HUF or trust or any other assessee but not a company or a firm
  • You are less than 60 years old
  • The tax computed on your total income is nil
  • Your total interest income for the year is less than the basic exemption limit of that year, which is Rs. 2.5 lakh for financial year 2020-21 (AY 2021-22)
